School of Information Great Canadian Beach & Park Cleanup Party 2023

Want to get involved in a community cleanup project?

Are you looking for a valuable way to volunteer and make a tangible impact on waste in our environment?  While the environmental challenges we face need global policy changes, waste is something each person can personally address. The School of Information is hosting a Great Canadian Beach & Park Cleanup from May-August, and we are looking for volunteers to join!

From collecting cigarette butts on the beach to picking up plastic waste tossed on the grass in the park, there are numerous initiatives to help keep our public spaces clean and vibrant. We hope to create a better environment for us all to share and raise awareness about the growing waste in our city. Population growth and capitalism are just two of the main factors that have led to severely high levels of pollution in the environment, particularly in the oceans that make up over 70% of our planet. City beach and park cleanups are a fun and exciting way of getting volunteers and community members out and participating in a meaningful activity. Every piece of trash we pick up helps to clean up our communities, and there will be prizes for those who collect the most pieces over all the sessions!

We’d like to thank UBC Workplace Sustainability and the School of Information for making it possible to provide funds for cleanup equipment and prizes.
