How to Stay Cool in Extreme Heat: Tips & Strategies

Extreme heat events are on the rise due to climate change driven by fossil fuels and interconnected systems of colonialism, racism, capitalism and neoliberalism.

Though deeper systemic change is needed to prevent heatwaves from magnifying and causing disproportionate community harms, at the Climate Hub, we also understand that amplifying knowledge, tangible strategies and coping mechanisms that promote agency and collective action before, during and after extreme heat events can help keep people and communities safe while expanding community resilience and collective care.

Check out this resources for an array of heat coping strategies to engage at the individual, community and systems level to cool down when the heat sets in!

The Climate Hub’s Climate Wellbeing Series is committed to fostering accessible and inclusive community climate mental health and wellbeing knowledge and practices.
